What is Sun Hang Do?
Sun Hang Do Martial Arts combines the best styles from the martial arts of the world, including both hard and soft techniques. Its main objective is to unite the body and mind, so that the physical and mental part of the martial art become as one. But not only in martial arts, the training to unite the body and the mind will result in all round ability to achieve other goals set in life.
The original martial arts were developed a long time ago by individuals or groups struggling to survive in hostile environments. As time passed, many different styles began to emerge from the numerous cultures of the world, each one proclaiming itself to be the best. Sun Hang Do, rather than adopting any single system exclusively, chose not to limit itself. It would open it's mind and accept all the good things from other marital arts. That way it would be a living force, a style constantly developing and growing.

What is the Meaning of the Name?
The name Sun Hang Do is actually a combination of meanings:
Sun: It means to be kind and good, to think worthwhile thoughts that expand the mind.
Hang: The word itself implies behavior, act and conduct. The excellence of the physical part of the human being.
Do: The endless improvement of oneself. The combination of Sun and Hang as a way of life.
The words Sun and Hang also have important meanings in English:
Sun: Bright, powerful, giving life and energy.
Hang: A strong determination to stay: never faltering or failing.
These English definitions follow the philosophy and goal of Sun Hang Do as well.

What is the Meaning of the Logo?
The crane represents loyalty, love and longevity. It is a bird that is loyal to its partner throughout its long life. In our logo it symbolizes the growth and expansion of Sun Hang Do throughout the world.
The two fists represent a strong will. Together they are symbols of spiritual and physical power.
The red circle represents overwhelming passion and the desire to better oneself.
Together, these images embody all that Sun Hang Do believes in.

What does Sun Hang Do teach?
The techniques of Sun Hang Do include blocking, punching, kicking and weapons. Sun Hang Do also uses the meridian line for the human body, its acupuncture points and the joints. All these techniques are organized and improved until a very high level of balance and skill is achieved. The goal of Sun Hang Do is a healthy body, mind and spirit.
Hard Techniques : Sun Hang Do incorporates an incredible array of powerful and precise blocking, striking and kicking techniques. You will learn to effectively perform and apply these hard techniques in sparring, for board breaking and in self defense situations.
Soft Techniques : Sun Hang Do teaches soft-style movements which utilize the meridian line of the human body it's pressure points and joints. You will learn incredibly effective self defense that involves throwing techniques, takedowns and joint manipulation.
Weapon Techniques : Sun Hang Do includes weapon training that will enlighten you to the advantages and skills we can harness through their use. Develop heightened focus and control from the disciplines of such weapons as short sticks longstaff and nunchakus.
Internal Power : Sun Hang Do trains you to improve proper breathing and relaxation. Through meditation you will improve your mental well-being and relieve stress. Through special breathing and stretching techniques you will build incredible internal power that will create a healthy mind and body. Who is Sun Hang Do for?
Sun Hang Do is for male, female, young and old. Anyone can easily learn and practice it, eventually understanding and attaining a very high level of the martial art. You will get to know yourself and should the situation arise, be able to defend yourself and help others.

What is the Black Belt Association?
The Sun Hang Do Black Belt Association is a registered, non-profit association whose purpose is to promote, foster, and encourage the development of martial arts in British Columbia. In the furthering of this purpose the BBA arranges competitions and grants prizes and awards in the martial arts sports.
The Sun Hang Do Black Belt Association is continually making an effort to strengthen it's position in the community by supporting other non-profit organizations such as B.C.'s Children's Hospital and the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. The BBA has raised funds for and supported such events as the Walk for Life for Korean famine relief as well as raising over $10,000.00 for various charities over the years of our operation.
B.C.'s Children's Hospital
Throughout the year of 2000, the Sun Hang Do Black Belt Association held fund-raisers and pledge drives with its black belts to help raise funds and awareness for B.C.'s Children's Hospital. By November of 2000 we raised enough to donate $10,500.00 towards their organization; presented here by Grand Master Kang and Master Kinney.
